Cystic Fibrosis is a lifelong genetic condition that primarily impacts the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. It is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, which regulates the movement of salt and water in and out of cells. When this gene does not function properly, it leads to the production of thick, sticky mucus instead of the thin, slippery mucus that normally lubricates organs.

This abnormal mucus buildup can block airways in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe and creating an environment where bacteria thrive. As a result, individuals with cystic fibrosis often experience frequent lung infections, chronic coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Over time, repeated infections and inflammation can lead to permanent lung damage if not managed effectively.
